Next on the list are clubs, which are pretty important due to one thing: Blunt Damage. Because of this, swords can specialize incredibly well, especially when dealing with certain enemy types like the undead. After all, there’s a sword for almost every type of metal in Valheim. Their main weakness is of course range, but the sheer number of different swords that players can make is one of the best reasons why this weapon type is so useful. Meanwhile, swords are among the faster weapon types in Valheim due to how many hits they can dish out within a few seconds. Last but not least, polearms have a special spin attack that damages and stuns enemies for a few seconds, giving players some breathing room. The range is yet another reason why polearms are deadly, as they can do great piercing damage with each poke.

However, once they do, polearms deal massive damage to the game’s enemies. They’re also pretty unwieldy if the player doesn’t have the prerequisite skill to use them. For one, you can’t use shields or any offhand item like torches and the like. Players can’t one-hand a polearm which causes a few issues, especially if playing on single-player. Next are polearms, which have a hefty requirement of needing both hands to equip. Unless you’re talking about the Draugr Bow, but we’ll talk about that later. Bows are just the delivery system, though they add a tiny boost to the damage. One thing to note is that it is not the bow that determines how much damage is dealt to an enemy but the arrow type instead. With this weapon, players can attack in range, though arrows are a requirement to use them. Pretty much the ultimate ranged option on Valheim. Each has its advantages and disadvantages in usage, which we’ll talk about below: Anyhow, these are bows, polearms, swords, clubs, axes, knives, and spears. The former’s ammunition while the latter’s defense. Well, technically 9, but arrows and shields usually aren’t considered weaponry. In Valheim, players have seven weapon types to choose from. The only thing you need to know is that the moment you get the prerequisite material, you’ll know what other materials are needed to craft anything. However, as per usual, crafting weapons require other materials as well, which we’ll cover later. If you want to continue using these items after they wear down, you’ll need to repair them at your Workbench otherwise you’re stuck crafting new ones over and over and over again which will cost you excess resources that could be better used for other things.Once a player has the prerequisite material for a craftable weapon, players will then see it on their crafting menu. Yes, your clothing has durability as well. Keep in mind that just about everything is impacted by the game’s durability system including tools like a Hammer, weapons like a Club, and clothing like your starter Rag Tunic. A good tip is that you can store excess items inside Chests at your base area for future use. We recommend holding on to your broken items and taking them back to your Workbench to be repaired. Of course, if you’re out in the wilderness and you don’t have a Workbench nearby and you absolutely need to craft something like a Stone Axe to continue harvesting Wood, you can do so and either hold on to your broken Stone Axe to repair it later, or dispose of it. To repair an existing Hammer, all you need to spend is 1 Wood and 1 Stone. To craft a Hammer, you’ll need to spend 3 Wood and 2 Stone. Repairing an item is cheaper when it comes to resources than crafting a brand new item.

For example, you can “Upgrade” a Hammer that’s broken and in doing so, you’ll be able to use it again. To repair an item, select the “Upgrade” tab while using your Workbench and choose the item you’d like to repair. Once your Workbench is complete and usable, you can approach it and repair your broken items (as long as you have the necessary resources to do so). First, you’ll need to craft a Workbench, then you’ll need to give your Workbench a roof in order to use it. The process of repairing broken weapons and items in Valheim is relatively simple.
